Be agents of promoting peace, programmes and policies of government, Okoro tells appointees

Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Rural and Community Development, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Okoro, PhD has advised political appointees to be more interactive as  grassroot politicians in their various communities by way of promoting peace and selling of the  programmes and policies of  His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa led administration to their people.

Dr. Okoro, who doubles as Pioneer Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, stated this on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in a meeting with political appointees, appointed to the Office of Rural and Community Development, at the Special Adviser's Office, Cabinet Complex, Cabinet Road, Asaba, Delta State.

He also clearly advised against creating any political tension as we approach 2023 general election in order not to distract His Excellency, the Governor in carrying out his development agenda as he work towards finishing strong.

These were his words:
“This meeting is primarily called for us to identify ourselves once more as a family and appointees of His Excellency, the Governor, to be agents of promoting peace and programmes of government.

“You will recall that on March 18, 2021, His Excellency, the Governor dissolved his Cabinet of which Commissioners, Special Advisers and other top government functionaries were affected. By the grace of God, His Excellency have been able to reconstitute his Cabinet, where some old and new hands were brought in to deliver the stronger delta agenda, of which am one of them by God's grace.

“We as political appointees are to effectively interact with our people at home and to sell the programmes and policies of the government to our constituents. The Governor will feel embarrassed if there is problem in any community where he has appointed EAs, SSAs, and SAs on community development and such appointees are being identified as cause of the problems. We should be agents of building peace and reconciling immediate conflicts before it degenerate.

“There are so many things we have to bear and consider as an appointees, knowing very well that with the paucity of resources, the Governor cannot provide all our needs at once. From time to time, we should always be the representatives of the Governor in our various communities and ensure we relate well with our people at home and be agents of defending the programmes of the government.

“Again, as earlier warned by the Governor ahead of  2023, we all should abstain from creating political tension. As politicians, we should be very calculative and be wise before giving an answer to political questions in order to avoid distractions in the politics of 2023. So let us remain steadfast by helping the Governor to build a stronger delta and finish strong”, the Special Adviser concluded.

Responding, appointees who spoke in different manners, applauds the Special Adviser and also extend their appreciations to His Excellency, for being a talk and do Governor in area of infrastructural development, a God fearing leader and pledge their total loyalty and support to the Governor Okowa led administration.

Present at the meeting were; Executive Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants on Community Development to the Governor.
